The Choir

Lihkören -- the Linköping University Male Voice Choir -- stands with its feet firmly planted in the rich tradition of Swedish male voice choirs. This has been the case since 1972, when the choir was founded among enthusiastic students at the Institute of Technology at Linköping University. Through the years the choir has developed, both in the musical field and the organizational. The singers are recruited from all of the university's faculties, as well as from outside the university.

Under the expert guidance of musical director Hans Lundgren, Lihkören has established a reputation as one of Sweden's best male voice choirs. Lihkören's repertoire spans over a wide variety of music in different styles -- an impressive mix of traditional and modern music.

Lihkören frequently tours and gives concerts. The choir also constitutes a permanent part of different events at the university and in Linköping. Lihkören has toured in South Africa, USA, Jordan, Great Britain, Estonia and Spain, in addition to the Nordic countries. At present the choir consists of over 50 strong male voices.

The Conductor

Hans Lundgren (b. 1947) is director musices at Linköpings universitet (Linköping University) and the music director of Lihkören since 1979. He has studied conducting with Professor Eric Ericson and has a Master's degree from the Royal University College of Music in Stockholm. Thanks to his strong devotion to the choral movement in Sweden and his commitment to being a conductor, teacher, administrator, composer and arranger, Hans Lundgren is in great demand and a person of great esteem.

At the University, Hans Lundgren has built up a music department, Musicum, with choral and orchestral activities. He is also the music director of another choir: Östgöta Kammarkör (Linköping University Chamber Choir).

Hans Lundgren has achieved great success with his choirs at national and international competitions and he has also been awarded several grants.

Joining the choir

In the beginning of each semester, Lihkören has a rehearsal open to the public. Be aware that Lihkören is a male voice choir and thus only men can attend. Our calendar is currently only available in Swedish, but information on when the next open rehearsal takes place can be requested from info@lihkoren.se.

If you are interested in joining the choir, please e-mail info@lihkoren.se to get help with your membership application. After applying for membership, you will be called to an audition, which you must pass in order to become a member.
